Registration of FSSAI License
A trader, manufacturer or entrepreneur who is carrying out any food-related business for example food manufacturing, processing, storage distribution, sale of food items products it is compulsory for them to get a FSSAI Registration License.
Types of FSSAI registration
The FSSAI Registration is divided into 3 categories relying on criteria of business turnover.
- Basic FSSAI Registration– Basic FSSAI Registration is mandatory for petty food business operators with a turnover of upto 12 lakhs annually.
- FSSAI State License– FSSAI State license is mandatory for business with turnover between Rs. 12 Lac to Rs. 20 Cr. annually.
- FSSAI Central License– FSSAI Central License is mandatory for business with a turnover above Rs. 20 Cr annually.

- Every type of Food Manufacturer,
- Food Packaging unit or Storage unit,
- Wholesaling or Trading or Online Food Business Operator,
- Caters, Hotel or Raw material supplier,
- Exporter and Importer of food products,
- Transporter as well as Distributors,
- Retailers of Food Product.

Statutory Fees
- The fees for FSSAI Registrationis Rs. 100/per annum.
- The fees for FSSAI state licenseare Rs 2000 to 5000/per annum (State-wise variation exists).
- The fees for FSSAI Central License are Rs. 7500/per annum.
Penalty for Non-Compliance
The food business operators are obliged to follow the standards set by FSSAI relating to the operations of food businesses. In case the food business operators fail to follow the guidelines as established by FSSSAI, it could attract FBO to be legally responsible for a penalty.

RENEWAL OF FSSAI LICENSE
A Registration or license granted for fssai shall be valid unless otherwise specified, for a period of 1 to 5 years as chosen by the Food Business Operator, from the date of issue of registration or license subject to remittance of fee applicable for the period and compliance with all conditions of license.

FSSAI Renewal Fees has two parts:
- If License is under expiry date the while renewing the FSSAI License you only need to pay.
- In case your license is expired you’ll need to pay a late fee while fssai license renewal application.

Kinds of Returns for FSSAI
- FSSAI Form D1
Food business units involved in manufacturing, importing, labelling, re-labelling, packing, and re-packing needs to file FSSAI Form D1 which is mandatory for them. The form is prescribed by the Food Safety Commissioner and is a mandatory for the FBOs irrespective of the production they are involved in.
- FSSAI Form D2
Form D2 is filed half-yearly and not every food business operator is eligible to file Form D2. Instead, FSSAI license holders who are involved in the manufacturing and distribution of milk or milk products can file Form D2.
